Autumn Delights Starting This September

By | August 8, 2017

There’s many a treat in store for you this Autumn at the Hall starting with events in September!

Saturday 2 September 7.30pm (doors open at 7pm

Love’s Philosophy –  A Journey Through Poetry and Classical Song

Former music students and now friends together, Rebecca Hunt, Marnie Blair and Hannah Watson all share a love of classical and operatic music and they will be bringing their charity recital to Beccles Public Hall on Saturday 2 September at 7.30pm.

The idea to put on a charity recital was Marnie’s and she first contacted the Hall in mid 2015. She’s a fairly recent graduate in Music from Durham University having received a first in performance. Her idea for a charity recital in Beccles is now taking shape and “we are very much looking forward to the event” said Marnie.
Marnie has been auditioning for Music College and is a classically & opera trained mezzo-soprano so much of what she will be performing at the recital will be classical, although she does have a few lighter pieces which will be included.
Rebecca Hunt is a trained Soprano and Hannah Watson accompanies the two young singers on the Hall’s Steinway and they have described their performance as “a journey through poetry and classical song”.
The concert will commence at 7.30pm on Saturday 2 September and is in aid of Doctors of Madagascar, Crohns & Colitis UK and Beccles Public Hall. The concert will last for approximately 1 hour and refreshments will be available the beginning and end of the concert when there will be a chance to mingle with the musicians.
Tickets £8 and £6 (concessions).

The Pedlar of Swaffham

Alan Huckle is an award-winning writer and has written this play based on the well-known folk tale about John Chapman, The Pedlar of Swaffham and the pedlar is coming Beccles’ way on Friday 8 September at 7.30pm, doors open at 7pm

EyesWrite – bringing the page to stage is a non-profit making organisation that has been promoting new plays by local writers for over ten years. It encourages, and where possible facilitates, the production of new stage plays.

“It’s our first event at the Public Hall and we are really looking forward to entertaining the good folk of Beccles” Alan Huckle of EyesWrite.

The story of John Chapman is a well known folk tale from the fifteenth century. There are various versions but few actual facts are know about him. This version keeps to the original tale but characters and events have been added to create a truly entertaining production.

Writer, Alan Huckle, takes the audience from Swaffham Town to London Bridge and back again relating the adventures of John Chapman, his family and the townsfolk of Swaffham as they struggle to keep their town alive. There are villains, saints, drama and comedy with many memorable songs suitable for all the family.

EyesWrite receives no grant aid or sponsorship, relying solely on ticket sales or fund raising events. Any profits made are used to promote new local writing. EyesWrite uses the finest actors and technicians from many local amdram groups as well as professional volunteers to perform locally written plays in theatres, art centres and village halls primarily in the Norfolk, Suffolk border area.
